Choosing the right chastity cage is a challenging task. In my 16+ years of experience in a 24/7 BDSM lifestyle, I’ve gained quite the knowledge on chastity.
Chastity cages that fit and don’t fit, that break and don’t break, that slip and don’t slip off… and equally, different kind of subs and Dominants having different expectations on what the cage purpose is going to be, how it’s supposed to feel like, and how long is it going to be worn.
My name is Master Lupus, and I’m pleased to offer you my best advices on how to choose the right chastity cage.

Why choosing the right chastity cage is crucial
Male chastity when done right, just like every other kinky sexual and para-sexual activity, is supposed to be fun, enjoyable and fulfilling. While it’s unavoidable to spend the first few days getting accustomed to your first cock cage (or even just a new one), at some point you should be able to blend that feeling into your normality.
It shouldn’t be painful to wear, it shouldn’t require constant re-fitting, and it shouldn’t impede you from fulfilling your needed daily task.
While a large part of this union between the locked male and the device depends on psychological factors, the chastity cage model plays a huge part in the worth and enjoyability of your chastity experience as well.
That’s why its fundamental to choose the right chastity cage for you; not just the one that looks the best, or that better suits your visual expectations.
Every Cock Cage is different, just like every man is different
Regardless of what your expectations could be, when it comes to penis cages there’s no “one size fits all”.
Out there there’s the right chastity device specifically for your anatomy and purpose of chastity. Without an accurate choice of the right model, you’ll never be able to truly enjoy completely the benefits of male chastity.
Just as an example, think about how different the male anatomy is between different men:
- Some men shave and manscape, some other rather not.
- Some men are growers, some are showers.
- Some men are cut, and some others are uncut.
- Some men quickly build up sebum and “dirt” on their penis, others don’t.
- Some men have zero trouble pissing, some others have some troubles (even without a cock cage).
- Some men are going to wear a cock cage for playtime and fun, some others as a daily lifestyle.
- Some men are into CBT and genital pain as part of the experience, some can’t stand it.
- Some men are allergic to different materials, some others can wear anything.
The list could go on. The bottom line is: forget what you think you know about chastity if you haven’t tried at least a couple of models on.
If this is your first time, you’d be better off in carefully considering the choice of the chastity model, or go for a fully customizable one like The Vice chastity systems.

Understanding the different chastity cage designs and materials
Here is where I usually see some Doms, Dommes and subs who are newcomers to the chastity lifestyle (or even chastity play for that matter) get things wrong. Being fetishists, we are all attracted to visual stimulation. Unavoidably, depending on the personality, sexual mindscape and personal preferences of the player, one might be attracted to fancy cock cage designs, digital futuristic app-driven cock cages, medieval styled ones, micro chastity cages, and so on.
But what does it actually mean to wear these cock cages for hours, days or weeks? How does the material, the shape, the functionalities and so on, affect your male chastity experience?
Chastity Cage Type | Pros | Cons | Suitable for |
---|---|---|---|
Large Chastity Cages | suitable for oversized bodies and penises | – More room for erection growth = more pain
– More weight = more slippage and pulling on the ring (also painful) – More bulky = less discreet and comfortable |
Men who can’t fit their flaccid penis into a standard sized cock cage |
Small Chastity Cages | – Lightweight & Comfortable
– Less room for erections = less pain – Compact form factor makes it comfortable to wear |
Sometimes more challenging to accept psychologically for a sexually active male. | Most men, in my experience, should experiment with cock cages that feel “tight and snug”. |
Inverted Chastity Cages | – Very satisfying visually and as a feeling
– A sissy’s dream – Enhances the identity / psychological aspects of chastity – Very discreet |
– Not for everyone; requires training to be worn for prolonged periods of time
– If cheap models, often prone to breaking very fast – Can be even more challenging mentally to some men. |
Men who are into SPH, sissification, emasculation or just those who want to completely remove their penis from sight. |
Anti Pullout Chastity Cages | – Safe and secure. No more cage slippage
– Also no more cheating on chastity – Far more intense and exciting experience
|
Strongly based on the responsibility of the keyholder. Having to escape an inescapable chastity device, would be a challenge. | Most men, especially because of the customization of the fit in every part of the chastity device.
Particularly good for those who want to elevate their chastity experience. |
Large Chastity Cages
A large chastity device might seem at the eye of an inexperienced player like the most comfortable go-to choice when it comes to locking your cock up. But, it’s wrong.
Generally larger chastity cage models are designed only for over-the-average endowed men, and while they might be more comfortable to them in some cases, they come with several drawbacks in my experience; first of all, erections are the main source of chastity pain, followed by the rubbing of the ring; if your cock has room to grow, then you’re going to feel more pain.
Secondly, they are way heavier, bulky and generally less manageable depending on the material, causing much more slippage and trouble in continued wearing. Heavier also means more pull and drag of the chastity ring on the tender tissue of your scrotum, so consider that too.
Lastly, they are going to show, a lot, through your clothes.
A large chastity cage might be a good idea in a few cases:
- you have a larger penis or you’re a “shower”, and can’t lock a standard cage on your soft penis.
- you are a top under control, and you don’t want your penis to shrink with longer chastity lockups (however, the fear of chastity shrinkage is not always justified or based on reality).
Small Chastity Cages
Normally the audience is divided here between men who don’t want to feel emasculated, but rather like to feel like “power under control” and those who are happier if their penis shrinks to a nub, or completely disappears from sight.
While this is about identity and personal taste, I’ve found that generally a standard to small chastity cage grants for the best experience for all the parties involved.
Within the world of small chastity cages, “small” can be a very subjective matter. That’s why there are several different models underneath the umbrella term “small chastity cages”, and generally they go from mini chastity cages to micro chastity cages. The next step, would be a completely inverted chastity device.
A small chastity cages is a good idea if:
- if you find that a standard chastity device is just a bit too large, allowing for painful erections or slippage.
- if you’d like to feel a tight snug fit, that makes erections impossibile, allowing only for swelling in the cage. Hot.
- if you prefer to avoid chastity belts or straps, and want a lightweight device that will stay up without pulling down.
- if you’d rather not showing the world the bulky bulge in your pants or underwear.
- if you’re into emasculation / sissification / humiliation play and other nuances.
Inverted Chastity Cages
An inverted chastity cage, is simply a chastity device where the cock cage is so short (or even flat), that id pushes the corpora cavernosa of the penis inside of your body. I know, it sounds gory, but it’s all safe. In fact, the cavernous corps of your penis extend beyond what you can see, and part of them is naturally hosted in your body.
Wearing an inverted chastity cage will make so that the erections grow within you to the extend where the erectile tissue in the corpora cavernosa can engorge, while leaving almost nothing visibile beyond your pubic area. Some models will have enough space to host the (very frustrated) glans, and some other models are completely flat, hiding your penis from existence altogether.
An inverted chastity cage would be a good fit for:
- men who are strongly into SPH, sissification, emasculation or just fetish play.
- men who have already experience into chastity, who are moving gradually from a standard, to a mini, and then to an inverted chastity cage.
- it can be fun for display purposes. Say your body is not ready for inverted chastity as a lifestyle; well, your Mistress or Master could decide to expose you to their guests (or online) with an inverted chastity, as a punishment, a prize, or just for their amusement.
Anti Pullout Chastity Cages
An anti pullout chastity cage is a chastity device designed to be inescapable. Many people in fact complain about the cock cage slippages, especially at night.
One goes to bed caged, and wakes up with their scrotum trapped between the ring and the cock cage, while the penis has slipped out. This can be very frustrating, cause issues between the dom and the sub, and also cause unintended harm.
An inescapable chastity cage like The Vice™, designed and patented by Locked in Lust, can solve these issues for good. In the case of The Vice™, the patented anti pullout mechanism makes it impossible for your cock to slide out of the cage. If you’re interested in learning more, you can see how the antipullout works here.
An Antipullout Chastity Cage is a good idea if:
- you want to avoid unintended (or intended…) cage slippage.
- you want to elevate your male chastity experience.
- you want to feel really helpless and without control, knowing that even if you wanted to, you can’t get out until unlocked.
Pro Tip: Beware of cheap Amazon Chastity Cages
Who doesn’t love a great online deal? Well, your penis doesn’t.
With BDSM, kink and genitals, safety standards should not be a concern; they should be taken care of from scratch by the makers of the device.
We can all find online cheap chastity cages for less than 10$, but are they worth it? In my experience, they are novelties that rarely follow valid health and mechanics standards, and they might be fine to use once or twice to take a picture, pose around, or do whatever… but when it comes to taking chastity seriously, be careful with those cheap cock cages.
Saving a few dollars might cost you trouble, pain, or even health hazards. I’d suggest to always purchase from well established brands, where you feel you can trust the makers.
Chastity Cages: which material to choose?
Let’s stay as scientific as possible, as we did, and leave aside personal preferences for a second.
Because, my personal preference would be metal, and specifically stainless steel. But my opinion as a 24/7 leather Master, is to go with medical grade plastic. Here’s why:
Medical Grade Plastic Chastity Cages
This is normally my go-to choice when I am introducing a newcomer to chastity. I found that models like the Holy Trainer and The Vice are generally well accepted by newcomers, and seem easier to get used to and switch from discomfort to enjoyment.
I prefer The Vice over the holy trainer because every single part of The Vice is interchangeable, and I can configure the perfect fit for my sub, playing around with rings, spacers, locking pins and cock cages of different type and size.
The Vice is made of medical grade high quality polymers; so far, I have never seen any skin reactions, and it works well with skin oils and creams that might be applied to diminish the ring’s friction on the body. Plastic is light, cheaper, and in the case of The Vice, also extremely durable (it stands over 20 times the pressure of a typical erection).
Metal Chastity Cages
So these are my favorites, but hey, I don’t have to wear them. My subs would have to.
Metal chastity cages look fantastic, but they are not for everyone. When purchasing a metal chastity cage, make sure to consider:
- the weight: unless you go for titanium, which will make your cock cage very expensive, metal tends to be heavy. Heavy means much less discreet, more noisy when you move around, often featuring hard edges that will feel much harder when pressuring on your skin during nightly erections.
- the shape: metal chastity cages tend to be done wether like a bird-cage, or in a complete enclosure of the penis; if you go for the open penis cage version, consider that sharp metal edges might be felt, so to say.
- From a hygiene standpoint, they can be easier to keep clean than other materials, but they are also more likely to be thermosensible. In other words, do not sunbathe in your metal chastity cage; by the time it will have become too hot to wear, it’ll take too long to take it off without consequences.
Resin Chastity Cages
Resin cages are fun, because being often 3D printed, they come in crazy shapes. This give us kinksters the ability to choose a level of customization of the appearance that is unprecedented… but again, at what cost?
While Resin chastity cages are very lightweight, they are not as durable as plastic or of course, metal. They will often break in their thinner areas, sometimes as soon as you sit down with just normal jeans on.
So, depending on your body size, and the kind of garments you wear, you might want to be careful in setting expectations about the life-span of your resin cock cage.
Sizing and Fitting: essential factors for comfort, health and security
As important as the material and shape of your chastity cage is, of course correct sizing and fitting are paramount for comfort, health and general security.
Locked in Lust has put together a wholesome chastity sizing and fitting step by step guide that will guide you in the correct process, sequence and order of measurements you need to take of your genitals to find the perfect fit.
I suggest to start by first choosing the chastity cage material, then choose amongst the available styles, and then take the measurements.
